‘Penguin Palooza’ Playtime at West Edmonton Mall

EDMONTON — On the deck of the Santa Maria, parents and children gathered together to learn about and greet an African penguin from the West Edmonton Mall penguin colony Tuesday.

‘Penguin Palooza’ is the first weekly ‘Playtime’ event presented by ‘Attractions at WEM’. The first 50 children that boarded the Santa Maria got a coupon for a free popcorn at ‘Scotiabank Theatre’, where the new Jim Carrey film, ‘Mr Poppers Penguins’, is playing.

Every Tuesday a free event will be put on at West Edmonton Mall and every event will be geared towards family-fun activities.

“West Edmonton Mall is always looking at developing new programs for all ages,” Sheri Clegg, media and public relations manager at West Edmonton Mall.” Our ‘Playtime’ events definitely cater to our younger guests and provide parents and caregivers with a fun and affordable outing with their children.”

‘Playtime’ events will be occurring throughout the year. Next Tuesday, June 28,  a ‘Kiddie Karnival’ will be held, featuring games, prizes and face painting.

“In July, we will be partnering with Chapters for a pirate-themed event aboard the Santa Maria and we will have a baseball-themed event featuring appearances by Edmonton Capitals players,” said Clegg. “We want these events to be fun and educational and we want them to create interest in our retailers and community, too.”

For information on the next ‘Playtime’ event, go to the West Edmonton Mall website or visit their Facebook page.
