Liberal Mary MacDonald wants to win back Edmonton Centre

EDMONTON— Liberal Mary MacDonald filed her nomination papers this week for a chance at the MP seat for the Edmonton Centre riding this May.
MacDonald has been eagerly awaiting the campaign since she was nominated by her party in 2009
“I’m excited about running,” said MacDonald. “I’ve got a great campaign team.”
MacDonald is hoping to follow in the shoes of Anne McLellan, the former deputy prime minister who held the riding or its equivalent from 1993 to 2006. MacDonald knows it won’t be easy to win the seat back from Conservative Laurie Hawn, who has held the seat for the past five years.
“You run hard, you organize, you prepare,” said MacDonald. “You never ever take voters for granted and you have to work hard to gain their respect and gain their trust.”
MacDonald is hoping to give back to her community and stand up for those who may not have a voice in the Edmonton-Centre area. She is grateful for all the people who have volunteered their time for her campaign.
“I’m really thrilled by the number of people who have come in to volunteer,” said MacDonald. “Particularly the number of young people who are coming in, that means a great deal to me.”
MacDonald will also be running against Lewis Cardinal, NDP; David Parker of the Green Party; and Mikkel Paulson of the recently formed Pirate party.
