Besides offering your dog a new look with some grooming, The Pampered Puppy has a pet first aid course running April 1 and April 2.

The Pampered Puppy usually offers this course about once every six months.

According to Michelle Martin, who has been trained by Prairie Training Services and teaches the first aid course, the idea is to educate people in how to care for their pets in an emergency.

“If you know CPR ou can keep the dog alive until you get them to veterinary,” said Martin. “Everyone working with animals in any way should be certified.”

She likens is to people taking care of children, someone at an institute offering daycare has to be certified in CPR by law, she said it should be the same with pets.

The differences between giving a dog first aid and and a person CPR are not as vast as you’d imagine.

“They’re very similar,” said Martin. “Almost identical.”

Though she was quick to add:

“There are a few differences. People don’t usually try to bite you.”
