Canora Place opens next week

CANORA  - The doors will be officially opened next week at the now completed Canora Place housing development.

The grand opening is set for Thursday, March 24 from noon to 1:30.

Of the 30 units available in the three-storey building, located at 10141-153 St., one of the units will have two bedrooms, 14 of them will have one bedroom, and the remaining 15 will be bachelor units.

These apartment units, however, are not for just anybody. The housing project is meant to cater to those in need, including the homeless and those with addictions or mental illness.

Funding for the housing project came from Homeward Trust Edmonton, as well as additional community partners. Homeward Trust Edmonton provided Jasper Place Health and Wellness Centre with $1.8 million through the Government of Canada’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy.

Between 2008 and 2012 the government committed to investing more than $1.9 billion towards addressing homelessness. Over the years, Homeward Trust Edmonton has received $44 million from the government of Canada in total. The government of Alberta has provided them with $1 million per year and the City of Edmonton provides close to $1.2 million per year.

To attend the grand opening an RSVP is required. Phone Sonya Helms at 780-496-2633 by Monday, March 21.
