EDMONTON – A mother has been charged after abandoning her baby in a hotel room in west Edmonton late last month.

Police responded to a call early Friday Jan. 25 that a baby had been left abandoned in a room at the Continental Inn & Suites hotel at 166 Street and Stony Plain Road.

“It appears that a mother and her newborn baby checked into the hotel earlier in the day,” said police spokesman Chad Orydzuk. “The baby was alone and unsupervised when alert hotel staff found the baby.”

The baby is under the care of Alberta Child and Family Services and is said to be in good condition.

The mother has been charged with willfully causing a child to be in need of protective services.
